Construction Inspector Expectations: 

  • Travel and work out of town overnight, as often as 4-5 days per week depending on the client and job location.
  • Inspect and document contractor’s work for conformance with the construction documents, which means you’ll need to have taken a deep dive into all the specs beforehand.
  • Attend and participate in weekly project status meetings with the contractor and client, keeping everyone up to date on where everything stands.
  • Prepare punch list weekly; work with the team to monitor and document completion of punch list work.
  • Communicate clearly verbally and in writing with laborers, contractors, clients, and community members, basically folks from all walks of life.
  • Utilize your knowledge of the construction industry to read and understand blueprints, plans, and specifications.
  • Collaboratively solve problems in the field while coordinating with engineers in the office.
  • When changes to the original plan need to be made, prepare red-lined as-built drawings to document how and what was modified.
  • Utilize technology to track construction progress, quantify materials installed, and create applications for payment to the contractor.
  • When the project is complete, perform and document final inspections and certify your sign-off on the project.

  • Develop and prepare detailed civil engineering drawings and plans using AutoCAD and other design software.
